Hotel Delhi Heights : Jantar Mantar Tour
Jantar Mantar- (Yantra-Instrument, Mantra-Formula)- Only a short stroll from Connaught Place, the Janter Mantar is a strange collection of Salmon-coloured structures that comprise one of Maharaja Jai Singh observatories. Commissioned by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, this ancient observatory was built in 1724 and is dominated by a huge sun dial, the ' Samrat Yantra". Just south is 'Jai Prakash" an instrument designed by Jai Singh. South again are two circular buildings which together form 'Ram Yantra". Others include the 'Misra Yantra". This ingenious device makes it possible to tell the time in four other place in the world when it is noon in Delhi. The two pillars to the south-west of the 'Misra Yantra" are built in order to determine the shortest and longest days of the year i.e. 21 Dec. & 21 June. Tourist guides take great delight in calculating the exact time with the help of the help of the sun dial.
